h2. Investigation of sandbar development at the head of the Sand Engine
{panel}

           The Sand Engine is a hook shaped peninsula built in 2011 in the Dutch coast near Ter Heijde, that aims to protect the coast and avoid the continuous sand replenishment operations. During the monitoring campaigns a sandbar/spit was observed at the head the Sand Engine. Curved coastlines are subjected to complex hydro-morphodynamic processes and features such as spits, undulations and sand waves can develop. This work is focused on the  investigation of this sandbar formation and development and the identification of the most relevant processes that take place at the head of the Sand Engine.
