The geoid is not explicitly defined in the CF convention. There was some discussion on this.

Projection/Geographic Coordinate System

Spherical:WGS84, Cartesian: Unknown, SOBEK: Amersfoort new The region is only valid in the bounding box of the Netherlands but this restriction is not used.

Projection by grid mapping. Projection information is also stored. Data is alwasy provided in WGS84

In Delft3D/SOBEK there are two methods to store coordinates:

  • Cartesian
  • Spherical
    Actually this does not say anything about the coordinates itself but it defines the distance function between points.

Questions:
Is it correct to assume that Spherical is always based on a WGS84 datum.
