Measurement plan

The laboratory experiments are scheduled in six phases:

  • 1A: flow flume experiments remoulded beds
  • 1B: flow flume experimens placed and deposited beds
  • 1C: wave-flow flume experiments placed short bed
  • 1D: wave-flow flume experiments placed long bed
  • 1E: settling velocities
  • 1F: knowledge gaps

Current status

Currently we are working on phase 1A, for which we collected samples from the Western Scheldt and at Noordpolderzijl in September 2020 and will collect samples from the Tamar Estuary and Scheldt River (see figure 1).

The collected samples cover a wide range of densities and sand-mud percentages. This is illustrated in the figure 2, which is included in the internship report of Jelmer Korteling.

The first phase of laboratory experiments (phase 1A) is almost finished. This phase includes erosion experiments in flumes and using Eromes experiments. The report describing these experiments is going to be finalised in spring fall 2021.

In spring we will carry Currently we are carrying out erosion experiments on placed and deposited beds (phase 1B) and for combined forcing by waves and currents (phase 1C).
