    • Darwin Core standard (DwC), extension of Dublin Core (DC), the most used meta-data standard. DwC is a generic data standard , specifically designed for primary biodiversity data. Visit the DwC reference guide for a description ot of the used terms.
    • Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A),
    • ABCD standard (Access to Biological Collections Data), advanced data standard for primary biodiversity data, often used for natural history collections. ABCD includes terms for metadata.
    • EML standard (Ecological Metadata Language), common standard for metadata on observational, research, monitoring and natural history datacollections.
  • GBIF (Global Biodiversity Information Facility) international organisation building an infrastructure for free and open access to standardised biodiversity data. The GBIF infrastructure is build on DwC, ABCD and EMLGBIF: international organisation: advises to use either Darwin core or ABCD for biological meta-data, uses CoL (se below) as backbone taxonomy list
    • OBIS: marine node of GBIF, uses WoRMS (see below) as backbone taxonomy list
    • NLBIF: Dutch node of GBIF. Note that Dutch marine data covered both by NLBIF and EurOBIS, so a choice needs to be made, perhaps EurOBIS is preferred. Uses CoL + some WoRMS extensions (see below) as backbone taxonomy list. NLBif host a new initiative to share data: IPT which has a tryout option.

  • EcoGRID: technology
  • GAN: Dutch Data Authority for the Environment (Gegevensautoriteit Natuur)
    • NDFF: database maintained by GAN (databases). Note that NDDF is not specified according to NLBIF standards, but an export facility is foreseen (heard through grapevine).
  • VOFF: data collection, NDFF stores information of various collecting organisations (i.e. FLORON, SOVON, RAVON, EIS, ...)
  • waarneming.nl: web 2.0 data gathering
