In December 2025 the HEC-HMS adapter has been updated to support gridded forcings, in version 4.13 onwards. In that version there is also a major DSS (Data Storage System) file format change with the introduction of HEC-DSS version 7. This offers significant improvements over the previous version 6, such as removal of the 8GB file size limit, faster cataloging, and more efficient storage. The HEC-HMS adapter supports this HEC-DSS version 7.
In August 2026 the HEC-HMS adapter has been made compatible with version 4.14 when it comes to .hms, .gage and .state files.

The HEC-HMS 4.8 model seems to store the timeseries in the DSS files “broken up” per month. This is different as compared to the 4.2.1 model version. When the Post Adapter extracts the timeseries from the results DSS file to a simulation.xml for Delft-FEWS to import, the timeseries are also “broken up” in monthly pieces in the xml file. This is no problem for the Delft-FEWS import routine and all data is imported correctly into the application.
In March 2026 the post adapter is extended with the possibility to convert all dss files within a directory to a PI XML file. This functionality is activated by adding a dssFilesDir property to the run infor file.
