Funagira dam is located in Tenryuu River in central Honshū, Japan. Tenryuu River carries different types of sediment. The dam has nine gates and three turbines for power generation. Funagira dam has been operational since 1977. The downstream of the dam suffers from bank erosion and point bars formation due to old gates operation pattern (Pyramid shape gate opening). A new gates-operation pattern (equal shape gates opening) is introduced.
