The setting of this experiment is exactly the same as in Twin Experiment 3, but with real measurements. Here, observed Algal Diatom, Algal Green Algae, Algal Cyanobacteria, and Phosphate from location 5004A10 are assimilated.
Results
The results are summarized in terms of the RMS residuals as shown in the figures below. As can be seen, the deterministic results are worse than in Twin Experiment 3. The EnKF is successful in improving the forecast of Algal Diatom at some locations. For most other parameters and locations, the EnKF output is less accurate than the deterministic. This suggests that the error covariance as estimated by the ensemble is not representative of the actual one.
