Can state-of-the-art numerical modeling be used to design more efficient and economic power plants?

<image>
The research objective of this master thesis is to objectively demonstrate the added value of state-of-the-art recirculation modelling compared to a typical straight-forward modeling approach for the optimization of the intake and outfall configuration of a power plant. The added value will be demonstrated based on the following indicators:

  • Relative temperature increase (distribution) at cooling water intake.
  • Resulting amount of infrastructure required.
  • Resulting costs and savings during the construction and operating stage of the power plant.
