Introduction

Based on an in-depth study of urban groundwater monitoring and experiences in the Netherlands, more than 30 locations of urban monitoring wells are installed. The substantiation of these choices is reported in the document titled 'Monitoring water and the Urban Environment, New Orleans Water Monitoring Vision and Elaboration.' The main objective of this urban monitoring network is to understand the actual and future fluctuations in shallow groundwater in relation to rainfall, evaporation, surface water levels, and drainage (and/or recharge) by underground infrastructure. Additionally, changes due to climate change, sea level rise, and subsidence are considered. The proposed monitoring network is also designed to better understand the relationship between deep groundwater and shallow groundwater, with existing deep wells being integrated.
