Accelerating Morphodynamic Forecasts using high-performance computing on comprehensive hydrodynamic data

Predicting Meso-Scale Morphodynamics of the Ameland Ebb-Tidal Delta

The coastal landscape has several utilities, ranging from protection against high water and waves to habitat and recreational purposes. To maintain and improve this landscape, various engineering solutions have been implemented in the past. As the environmental impacts of such solutions are increasingly important, more attention is going to building with nature instead of building in nature. Sandy solutions, which is the implementation of sand nourishments, is one of the methods that uses this principle.

My research builds on the existing knowledge of modelling morphodynamic forecasts of sandy solutions under sea level rise (specifically for the Ameland ebb-tidal delta). The objective is to research the added value in predicting inlet dynamics of brute force conditions to averaged and/or schematized forcing conditions. To account for the high computational power needed for the brute force method, high-performance computing will be used.

I am currently doing a literature review and working towards my kick-off meeting.
