I also have a list of national and regional data portals for Spain. Whilst these should be assimilated into the EU portals, sometimes this takes time and there is useful information to be found regionally. Not sure where to place these? Maybe a National/regional list? for example http://www.ign.es/
Thank you for adding useful portals to the list!
I will add the ign.es to the General Data Portals list, and change the name of this category to make it clear that it mostly contains regional and national portals.
One of the challenges of making such a list is that there is a balance between having too many (hard to find stuff) or not enough links to external portals (nothing to find). The major criteria for this list is whether or not it offers potentially relevant datasets in the Deltares domains. I think the Spanish national portal is of interest, but the regional portals might be too specific and might results in an overload of small portals. If you know about major other EU portals not listed here, feel free to add them .

Where would be a good place to list 'tools for facilitating access' to external data portals? such as:
R packages for accessing climate data:
This is an excellent idea, listing tools for facilitating access. I think many people (including myself) who could benefit from them are not aware of most of these tools. This might actually be best stored in a separate list, maybe categorized on programming language. This 'tools for data access' page can also link to an explanation on how to work with it, such as the Open Earth tech notes on R. I will consult with the data portal team what they think.
Edward P. Morris
Ok looks good.
added R packages for accessing climate data to: R
Mark van der Krogt
Please add http://www.rijkswaterstaat.nl/apps/geoservices/geodata/dmc/ for direct download of several PDOK map layers (shape or raster files). For instance AHN, DTB, TOP10NL.
Thanks, very useful data repository. I added it to the general data portals!

Maybe we need a 'Land cover' category for datasets that provide continuous land cover types, usually derived from remote sensing. For example:
GLOBLAND30 World In 2010, China launched a Global Land Cover mapping project, and finally produced the 30 m GLC data product (GlobeLand30) with 10 classes for years 2000 and 2010 within a four year period, which was donated to the UN.
