A legally-mandated recurring assessment of all the primary levees in the country takes place every 5-6 years.

PC-Ring was developed in The Netherlands for the project ‘Veiligheid van Nederland inKaart’ (VNK), to assess the safety of the dike-ring areas in the Netherlands.
PC-Ring calculates the probability of flooding for a system (dike-ring) and the contribution of each element (dike section and cross-section) to it.
The next step in levee assessments in the Netherlands (WBI 2017)  is the transition to a risk-based approach, and the development of a new model is central to this ambition.
The new model is called Hydra-Ring (Hydra-models) >> http://hydraring.wordpress.com/ (by Kathryn Roscoe)

DAM makes it possible to manage and study dikes in minute detail. It is a computation tool that shows whether dikes are strong enough and where improvements are needed. It can draw on a range of scenarios to evaluate dikes in different climate scenarios. Using the module results in savings because the whole assessment procedure is fully automated whereas before manual operations by engineers were required. DAM works with other Deltares as well as third-party tools such as FLIWAS and Delft-FEWS. DAM is suitable for both day-to-day management practice and crisis management. Deltares developed DAM in cooperation with STOWA. It is used for over 2000 kilometres of dikes.
