Timo is an expert in uncertainty and Geotechnical Reliability and risk, flood risk analysis and management with the focus on geotechnical aspects of engineered systems and protection against natural hazards. His areas of expertise are: reliability analysis; risk assessment and management; flood defences (e.g., levees/dikes, embankments); probability theory and uncertainty-based modelling; Bayesian inference; geotechnical code calibration

Katerina Rippi

MSc from TUDelft on "Structural reliability analysis of a dike with a sheet pile wall: Coupling Reliability methods with Finite Elements", where she investigated the reliability and the soil stability of dikes reinforced with sheet pile wall, modelled by a Finite Element Model (Plaxis 2D). The soil, as well as structural parameters of the sheet pile wall, were accounted for in the analysis and their participation in system’s failure is to be evaluated..

Ana specialised in the probabilistic analysis in pile foundations (PhD). With 4 years experience at Deltares, in geotechnical safety and risk assessment, she has the chance to be involved in developing guidelines and give formation for probabilistic assessment of dikes, or investigate new and cost-efficient methods of design and assessment of geotechnical structures.

Towards the end of his PhD on "Parallel Implementation and Application of the Random Finite Element Method", Jon became a Research Assistant; firstly at the University of Manchester, evaluating the consolidation and strength of low level stored wastes, for Sellafield Ltd., before moving to TUDelft to continue his research into the Random Finite Element Method, Random Fields, Random Number Generation and Parallel Computation Methods, focusing on large scale slope stability analysis.
This research has expanded, while undertaking projects for organisations such as Plaxis bv., Deltares and the European Union, to include a wider field of topics including probabilistic methods, inverse modelling and fracture modelling.
