Conversion

In order to convert a map, insert the path and name of the file to be converted (filename) and the path and name with the desired extension of the destination file (destination path). There are several additional options (destination attributes) to specify the characteristics of the destination:

Destination attributes:

  • Data type: during a conversion the user can specify the data type of the map data: integer (16 bits) or scalar (32 bits). This option can be used to create integer maps for model functions which require this data type. For the moment, this only concerns the sub-area maps of the functions 'area total' and 'area average' (Appendix A).
  • Block width: 2 (if you fill in 2: 2*2 cells in the original map will be merged into 1 cell (grid cell size enlarged).
  • Number of valid cells: when the number of valid cells in block width (e.g. 2*2 cells) is not met, this will be interpreted and recorded as a missing value.
  • Generate statistics: this attribute will generate a .STX file containing the minimum and maximum value of the map.
  • Option: the option 'average' will average out all the cells in a 'block' during the conversion; the option 'occurrence' will use the most frequently occurring value (e.g. in an ecotope map).

Clip extent:
With this final option you can select a specific area by specifying the range of row- and column numbers you want your selection to contain. The default of the row- and column numbers is 0, the entire map will then be converted.
