How do I find the version number of Wanda?

Wanda consists of two main parts: the user interface and the simulation programs (executables). Both have their own version numbers. For example, Wanda 4.0 (as originally released on May 31st, 2011) had user interface version 4.0.1020 and executable version 4.00.13.

The version of the user interface is found in the 'About Wanda' dialog. This dialog is found under the Help menu.
The version number of the executables is listed in the output log files of the simulations; 'steady messages' or 'Transient messages'. Both these files are accessible after running a simulation.

How do I install Wanda?

For every new release of Wanda, Deltares sends out an email to our users with the release announcement, release notes, and installation instructions. The installation instructions can also be found on the wiki, in the Documentation area under Downloads & Patches

How do I check if the dongle is properly installed?

In order to use Wanda, you need to have a properly installed dongle.

In order to check whether the dongle has been installed correctly, you will need the lmtools utility, which is included with the license manager (DS_FLEX) software. Start the lmtools.exe program and go to the System Settings tab. Here you should see something like this:

The FLEXID field must show at least one dongle-code. If this is the case, the dongle is installed correctly and working.
If the FLEXID field is empty, try to reinstall the Dongle drivers.

iGrafx FlowCharter is locked? How to activate Flowcharter?

If you do not enter the Flowcharter license key during the installation proces, Flowcharter will run in read-only mode. This is indicated by a "lock"-icon attached to your cursor.

To Activate Flowcharter, it is not necessary to reinstall everything. Just start iGrafx Flowcharter standalone, go to the help menu --> about igrafx. A small dialog window will open. Click on the Add button and enter your Flowcharter license key. After restarting the application, Flowcharter should be activated.

User Interface questions

How can I display value labels in a graph?

To display the value-labels of certain graph you will need to do the following:

  1. Double-click on the graph. A settings-window should appear
  2. On the top-left side, click on the 'Series' tab
  3. Select the desired time/location series from the dropdown box
  4. On the 'Marks' tab, make sure the 'Visible' checkbox option is set, and the 'Style' option is set to 'Value'.

You should see the value labels appear in the graph.

If there are a lot of pipe elements (or the timestep is small), the value labels will be to close to each other to be readable. If the pipeline is built from different pipe components, you can also select the 'Labels' series in step 3 (see above).

Wanda Components

The PUMP component does not listen to the Control-system

In Wanda 3.60, the pump only listens to the control system when the property drive type is set to "Running" or "MotorFreq". This will be fixed in Wanda 3.70 where the pump can be used with a control system regardless of the drive-type setting (except for the "Level On/Off"-setting, which is a control system in itself).

The PUMP with drivetype = motorfreq cannot use a logical control input.

The PUMP component can only receive a logical control input when the drive-type property is set to trip. With drive-type=motorfreq the component expects a numerical input signal specifying the relative frequency. This means that the input can vary between 0 and 1.

A PIPE has too many elements.

Entering an incorrect (too low) Young's modulus into the pipe properties can cause the number of pipe elements to exceed the maximum number of pipe elements (this limit depends on your license). Wanda will not allow you to run any computations when this happens.

Above is the equation for the wave speed in the pipeline, where E is the Youngs modulus of the pipe. If the Youngs modulus is too low, the resulting wave speed c will be small. The number of elements n is calculated by the following equation:

Where L is the length of the pipeline, c is the wave speed and Δt is the time step. if the wave speed is low, the number of pipe elements rises.
