With check box selection, selecting the label does not select the item. You will have to check the checkbox to select the item. A greyed out selected checkbox means the it has childern children of which some are selected. If all children are selected, the parent will automatically be selected as well. It is therefore not possible in check box selection mode to select all children without selecting their parent.
