Voor een goede kleurvergelijking door de Waterkwaliteit-app is App is het van belang dat alle materialen schoon en droog zijn. Vooral de legendavlakken en de hoekpunten op de legendakaart mogen niet vies of bedekt worden. Bewaar de teststrips afgesloten in het potje op kamertemperatuur.

Step-by-step guide

Set the ‘location services’ mode of your smartphone to ‘device only’. Location estimation using a combination of GPS, Wi-Fi and mobile networks is not sufficiently accurate for the Water Quality App.

Stappen

Zet op je smartphone bij de instellingen van de ‘Locatieservices’ de modus ‘Alleen apparaat’. Locatiebepaling op basis van mobiele netwerken is namelijk niet nauwkeurig genoeg.

1. Neem een monster
   

   1. Spoel de beker eerst een keer om met het te bemonsteren water

   2. Neem zo weinig mogelijk modder, planten en beestjes mee

   3. Val niet in het water

2. Pak een teststrip en je smartphone 
   1. Doe dit met schone en droge handen

   2. Sluit het potje met nitraatstrips weer af

3. Zet de Waterkwaliteit-App aan en zet hem op het fotoschermpje
   

   1. Doe dit door in het beginscherm op het foto-icoontje te drukken

   2. Bovenin staat de tijd met in het groot de seconden

4. Dip de teststrip 1 seconde in het bemonsterde water en kijk op de seconde-teller
   

   1. Onthoud de tijd (seconden)

   2. Niet wapperen om de strip droog te schudden

   3. Bevestig de strip alvast naast de legenda op de kaart, midden op de zwarte strook

   4. Zorg dat het testvlak van de strip, de legenda en de hoekpunten van de kaart schoon en droog zijn en niet bedekt worden met vuil of vingers

   5. Zorg ervoor dat je de kaart egaal, zonder schaduwen op de foto kunt zetten 

5. Maak na 60 seconden een foto met de App
   

   1. Zorg dat er voldoende licht is om een goed scherpe foto te maken

   2. Druk op het scherm als je de foto wilt maken. De eerstvolgende keer dat de app alle hoekpunten herkent wordt het beeld vastgelegd.

   3. Het beeld moet scherp, groot genoeg en zonder schaduwovergangen zijn

   4. Een blauw kruisje betekent dat het hoekpunt wordt herkend. Een groene rand betekent dat de hele kaart herkend is.

6. Controleer de meetwaarde en verstuur de meting
   

   1. Kijk of de meetwaarde plausibel is (komt het overeen met een aflezing op het oog?)

   2. Druk op OK om de meting te versturen, voeg eventueel een opmerking toe, geef het watertype aan en druk op het verstuuricoontje

   3. Als er geen wifi is wordt de meting opgeslagen en later verstuurd (als de App nog draait)

7. Sluit de App af, of (beter nog) doe een volgende meting
8. Take a water sample
   
   1. Rinse the cup before taking a water sample
   2. Reduce the amount of mud, lants and animals that get into the sample
   3. Do not fall into the water
9. Take out a nitrate test strip and your smartphone
   
   1. Do this with clean, dry hands
   2. Close the lid of the jar with the nitrate test strips
10. Turn on the Water Quality App and go to the 'take picture' screen
    1. Press on the photo icon on the home screen
    2. At the top of the 'take picture' screen, a clock indicates the hours, minutes, and seconds
11. Dip the test strip in the water sample for 1 second and look at the seconds on the screen
    1. Remember the time when you took the sample (seconds)
    2. Do not wave or shake the test strip to dry it
    3. Place the test strip on the black line next to the legend on the legend card
    4. Ensure that the test strip, legend, and four corners of the card are clean and dry and are not covered by dirt or your fingers
12. Sixty (60) seconds after the strip was dipped in the water, take a picture with the Water Quality App
    1. Ensure that there is enough light to take the picture
    2. Press on the screen when you are ready to take the photo. As soon as the legend card is identified, a picture is automatically taken as well.
    3. The image should be clear, straight, and without shadows
    4. A blue cross means that one of the corner points has been detected, and a green frame means that the legend card has been identified
    5. Practice makes perfect

13. Check and send the measurement
    1. Check if the measured value is plausible: does it correspond to what you had in mind?
    2. Press 'OK' to send the measurement; you can also add a comment and include the water type (e.g., surface water, groundwater)
    3. If your data usage is restricted, the measurement is still stored and sent the next time you connect to Wi-Fi/data (as long as the Water Quality App is still running)
14. Close the Water Quality App or (even better) take another sample
