D-Flow Slide is developed specifically for geotechnical engineers. It is a tool to perform a (semi-probabilistic) global and (probabilistic) detailed safety assessment on flow sliding in submerged slopes in front of flood defences. Moreover, it includes two advanced calculation models for analyzing static liquefaction and breach flow, that can be used for a tailor-made safety assessment, if the global and detailed assessments fail.

The graphical interfaces requires just a short training period, allowing users to focus their skill directly on the input of the geotechnical data and the subsequent evaluation of the calculated results.

Please double check always your input data of the advanced carefully and  discuss the results with @Dick Mastbergen or @Geeralt van den Ham (Deltares)

In this paragraph the major input screens and windows are explained on the basis of a Tutorial (bm-1-1).

The input file can also be downloaded, if you have a legal version of the program.

Main Window: The Cross Section of the problem

All input windows can be found at the Menu bar

Project contains all input windows for the different models. Only the soil parameters per layer has to be added in the Soil table

By Default only the Global and Detailed models are used.
Depending on the selected models, 3 charts (2 global and 1 detailed) or 4,5 charts (Static liquefaction and/or Breach flow) are shown.

In this tutorial we start with the three standard models

The Soil table for the Global and Detailed models (check the filter) contains several parameters.

The description of all these parameters can be found on the page Input parameters.

Add a soilprofile by using de soillayers from the Soil Table.

Add a surface line.

The 5 characteristics point are obligated

The description of these parameters can be found on the page Input parameters.

Add some additional parameters for the models.

The detailed model needs some extra parameters.

The probabilistic parameters are fixed,

Only the Mean "Area ratio" can be changed.

When all parameters have been inserted, you can start the calculation.

If one of the parameters are out of range, a validation  message will be given in the table window

When no errors are found, the results are presented. In this case both the global and the detailed model fail.

In this case both standard models fail and the user have to use the advanced models.

The global results:

The detailed results can be found in two different windows:

The advanced models.

In case the global and detailed models both fail, we have to perform an analysis with the advanced models for static liquefaction and/or breach flow.

Select the Advanced  models for static liquefaction (Sliq2D) and breach flow (HMBreach) at Project Info and 5 Charts will be shown.

Check the addional soil table parameters for liquefaction: (Set the filter in the soil table on Advanced Liquefaction)

Check the addional soil table parameters for breach flow: (Set the filter in the soil table on Advanced Breaching)

Additional parameters for liquefaction

Additional parameters for breach flow

Restart the calculation. In this case the advanced models indicate no failure of the embankment (both are green).
