 Flood Risk Uncertainty

Purpose of this website

The purpose of this website is to provide information for accessing a library dedicated to uncertainty in flood risk. This library consists of journal and conference papers, and reports, dealing with uncertainty related to flood risk. The most extensive part of the library is related to the safety assessment of flood defences.

Why a library?

The library has many benefits. The first of these is to collect in one central location all information relevant to uncertainty in the safety assessment of defences. This provides to the user a (hopefully) complete bibliography of what has already been done. This ensures that past research remains visible and accessible, which reduces the chance of duplication of already-completed work, and encourages research to be built upon the foundation of what has already been accomplished. This bibliography is particularly useful in studies aiming to provide an overview of uncertainties within the entire assessment process, because individual detailed studies on uncertainty will be available in one central location.

Another substantial benefit comes through the reference management capabilities of the free program Zotero used for the collection of the library. Zotero is a plug-in for the browser firefox, and makes the collaborative addition and management of documents a simple task. Members join a group, and the library belongs to the group. All members can access the library. An additional plug-in for Microsoft Word (as well as open source alternatives) makes reference management incredibly simple, literally as simple as the push of a button, which can save much time and effort in the preparation of future papers and reports.

Where is the library?

The library is not located on this website. Instructions to access the library are given in the "Access the Library" tab on this website. For help, contact kathryn.roscoe@deltares.nl

4. BUG FIX FOR ADVANCED SEARCH

Zotero version 2.0.9 contains a bug: the advanced search does not allow for searching the group libraries, only private libraries. A bugfix for this problem is made available here. The file zotero.jar has been updated and should be downloaded:

Important: Make sure that when you save the file, you select the type "all files" and give the filename the extension ".jar". The default is to download it as type compressed (zipped) file, but this will not have the desired result.

The downloaded file should replace the one found in the following folder:

C:\Documents and Settings[user_name]\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles[random_number].default\extensions\zotero@chnm.gmu.edu\chrome

Note: this updated version of zotero.jar is intended for use with zotero version 2.0.9. For details, and for other versions besides 2.0.9, pleae refer to
