Another way of reducing the effect of spurious correlation is the use of localization. Here we have applied the localization method of Zhang and Oliver (2011) to experiment setting used in Real World Experiment 2: only observed Algal Diatom, Algal Green Algae, and Algal Cyanobacteria from location 5004A10 are assimilated.
Results
The results of this experiment are shown in the figures below. At many locations/parameters, the localization has improved the EnKF performance.
