WANDA 4.5.2 Release

This is an important bug fix release that addresses the possible undefined behavior found in a few components (see Errata announcement WANDA 4.5.1 for more information). It also addresses a few other small bugs in the user interface, mostly related to the upgrade process of cases made in earlier versions of WANDA (see Release notes & Errata for a complete list).

On February 16th a configuration error was found in Wanda 4.5.1 that could lead to undefined behavior in the following components:
- Air valve (Vent & Vent2Leg)
- Pump when using drive type "Motorfreq"
- Cross (both merging and dividing flow)
- Fast filling pipe
- Orifice

The undefined behavior typically results in a crash, but as the possibility of wrong results cannot be ruled out, we suggest not using Wanda 4.5.1 for calculations involving the above components. On Tuesday the 21st of February the release of Wanda 4.5.2 is scheduled to resolve these issues.

WANDA 4.5 Release

Deltares is pleased to announce the availability of WANDA 4.5. This release marks the sixth release of the WANDA 4 series, and includes many improvements including:

  • The presence of short (8dot3) filenames is no longer required.
  • Writing output data is faster, which is most noticeable when running simulations on network storage.
  • Stability improvements to the Y-junction, the Vent2Leg, and the fast filling pipe.

Wanda 4.5 can be downloaded from the Deltares Download Portal.

IWA has adopted the Hydraulic Design and Management of Wastewater Transport Systems and made these guidelines available as an IWA publication. The CAPWAT Guidelines were developed in a Dutch Joint Industry Project on CAPacity losses in WasteWATer mains, a research project for the dutch wastewater industry that started in 2003. Together with engineering companies, suppliers and pipeline owners, and in close cooperation with Delft University, Deltares researched the behaviour of capacity reducing gas pockets in wastewater pressure mains.

You can order a copy (soft-cover or ebook) from the IWA website: http://www.iwapublishing.com/books/9781780407821/hydraulic-design-and-management-wastewater-transport-systems

Prior to the 2016 NCK days icebreaker, OpenEarth.nl organizes a hands-on sprint session on metocean data. In this traditional OpenEarth sprintsession, Gerben de Boer and Kees den Heijer will help you to optimally use and share your metocean data. The whole chain from raw data, conversion to netCDF, querying netCDF, and visualizing will be discussed. The session is supposed to be interactive and participants are encouraged to bring their own data to work on. We will first experiment with some existing (open access) metocean datasets of the Dutch coast. We will then explain Matlab and python tools to convert your own data to netCDF to facilitate your own analysis with analysis tools such as  Delft3D-quickplot, ncBrowse and Panoply.
