Transforming a WAQ-map into a Habitat .bil file
HabitoolGridCreate.exe can be used to transform a WAQ *.map file into a *.bil file that can be used in Habitat. In this *.pcf file, the grid extent, the names of in- and output files, the parameter(s) of interest and the spatial averaging options should be specified. The structure of this *.pcf file is described in the manual that can be found in the same folder. The operation is performed by typing 'HabitoolGridCreate.exe in=filename.pcf' on the command line.
Be aware that the averaging options in the *.pcf apply to spatial averaging only; temporal averaging with HabitoolGridCreate is not possible.

Layer selection
For many Habitat studies you are interested in a single layer (mostly the bottom or the top layer) of a WAQ-map. This can be done by following these steps:
1-Get the right filename.map, *.lga and *.cco files. A *.map file with WAQ-statistics (min, max, mean, stdev, etc.) is preferable, otherwise HabitoolGridCreate.exe (step 3) uses the last timestep only.
2-Use map2lay.exe to extract the layer of interest: type 'map2lay.exe filename.map' on the command line. The program then asks how many layers this map has, how many output layers you want and which layer(s) you are interested in (remember layers are numbered from top to bottom). After a while, it creates a/several files that contain(s) one layer, named 'filename-lay-layernumber.map'.
Note: this file cannot be viewed in Quickplot anymore due to some grid error; it works fine in Habitat nevertheless.
3-Use HabitoolGridCreate.exe as described above.
