Introduction

In numerical modelling, it is often important to check your model results with real-life observations. The 'Tide Stations' toolbox allows the user to both view and download water level time series. These time-series may be filtered for certain astronomical constituents. I is also possible to directly define observation points for Delft3D-FlOW. Dashboard makes use of IHO and XTide stations.

Usage - View and download water levels

A tidal station can be selected with the mouse from the Map View or chosen from the list of available “Tide stations”. There are three options available for each tidal station:

  1. “View Tide Signal” can be used to view the tide signal between “Start Time” and “Stop Time”.
  2. Export tide signal” can be used to export the time series at the selected location in *.mat or *.tek format.
  3. "Export components" can be used to export the components of the tidal signal in *.mat or *.tek format.

Usage - Make observation points

An interesting possibility for the Delft3D-flow model is the option 'Make Observation Points'. On clicking, the user creates observation points within Delft3D-FLOW at all the locations of the tidal stations. When this option is combined with 'Export Tide Signal' a quick comparison of the accuracy of the simulation is possible. See also Tutorial 1: set-up a tidal model.

Figure: The Tide Stations toolbox makes it possible to both create observations points and view/export tidal signals as can be seen in this example where we export the tidal signal of a station at the coast of India
