In april 2012 ontving Gualbert Oude Essink tijdens het TIAC2012-congres over het omgaan met verzilting in kustgebieden de 'Carlos Ruiz Celaá Award'. Hij kreeg de award voor een zoetwaterproject dat Deltares tijdens het congres presenteerde.
