Coastline behaviour assessment using satellite data

In this thesis project the main focus will be on retrieving validated coastline positions from satellite images using the computational power and storage of Google Earth Engine. The method will be tested in both data rich and data poor environments to assess the possibilities to find accurate coastline behaviour. It may result in a new data source to study long-term erosion and accretion trends.

Other coastal features like bathymetry and global wave climate may also be considered and processed during this thesis by extracting them from satellite images or by retrieving them from other data sources like global wave models.

The link between information retrieved from satellite measurements and numerical models (e.g. Unibest) may also be assessed by verifying in what way satellite data can serve as a model input.
