Dynamical assessment of hydraulic gates manufactured from Fiber Reinforced Polymers

Hydraulic gates have experienced undesirable flow-induced vibrations. The guideline "Dynamic behaviour of hydraulic structures" (P.A. Kolkman and T.H.G. Jongeling) is written based on years of measurements of primarily steel hydraulic structures and offers a means to predict possible undesirable vibrations.

Fibre reinforced polymer (FRP) promises to become an important construction material in the field of hydraulic structures due to its high durability and low maintenance costs. It is expected that flow-induced vibrations will also occur at FRP hydraulic gates. Therefore, it might prove to be advantageous to have a guideline available for the assessment of the dynamic behaviour of such FRP structures.

The aim of this research is to find out to what extend the guideline is applicable to FRP hydraulic structures.

Currently I am working on my literature study.
