Extreme value analysis of complex wave systems

The design of coastal structures is very much dependent on the hydraulic boundary conditions, such as significant wave height, mean wave period and wave direction. When the appropriate safety philosophy and required lifetime of the structure are determined. The next step is to determine the extreme conditions that the structure might face during its lifetime. Because some of these load parameters are correlated, performing an extreme value analysis might might not be straight forward, while treating all load parameters as independent might lead to a conservative design. The goal of my thesis is therefore to find a methodology to establish extreme wave conditions given the presence of multivariate (combinations of wind waves and swell) waves systems.
