Offshore wind farm power cable route optimization

Aimed at the innovation of offshore wind farms, a consortium of companies and knowledge institutions started the FLOW (Far and Large Offshore Wind) program. The main aim of the program is the cost reduction in design, development and operation of the offshore wind farms (FLOW, 2014). The FLOW program contains five main themes. Inside one of these themes, Deltares, TU Delft and IHC started the project: 'Optimizing cable installation and operation; a life cycle perspective'. The main goal of the project is the optimization of wind farm power cables. Part of this project is that Deltares is to investigate the optimization of the power cable route layout.

This thesis will focus on the optimization of the power cables connecting wind turbines in an offshore wind farm. The aim of the study is to develop a Matlab based tool which predicts the most optimal route design based on expected morphological behaviour in the design lifetime of an offshore wind farm.
In here the Prinses Amalia Windpark will be used as a case study.
