Measurements on bubble screens at experimental scale

This is a research internship of 3 months. Bubblescreens have a good potential in reducing the salt intrusion at sea to inland locks. In order to design a bubble screen with the right properties, more insight in the working principles is necessary. Previously, a study is done about the quality (bubble size, uniformity) of the bubble screen. The next step is done in this project; gaining confidence in measuring the bubblescreens. This includes measurements on the flow induced by the bubblescreen. From literature is known that a recirculating cell is induced by the bubblescreen. In the experimental phase of the project flow velocities in 2 directions are measured. On the sideline also water-air fractions and bubble velocities will be measured.

At 18 October the experiments are finished and now the data gathered is being analysed.
