The safety assessment consists of passing through different phases:

* A *[Global|GEO:D-Flow Slide - Global]* check according to the global assessment rules as given in the [VTV-2006|GEO:Literature^vtv2006.pdf] and  and [Handreiking Voorland Zettingsvloeiingen|GEO:Literature^TechnischLiterature^Handreiking RapportToetsen Voorland Zettingsvloeiing.doc]  tbv verlengde derde toetsronde.pdf] of Deltares;
* A *[Simple|GEO:D-Flow Slide - Simple]* check according to the recommandations of [CUR-113|GEO:Literature^CUR C130 Aanbevelingen.pdf];
* A [*Detailed*|GEO:D-Flow Slide - Detailed] check according to the probabilistic assessment method described in the [Handreiking Voorland Zettingsvloeiingen|GEO:Literature^TechnischLiterature^Handreiking RapportToetsen Voorland Zettingsvloeiing.doc tbv verlengde derde toetsronde.pdf];
* An *[Advanced|GEO:D-Flow Slide - Advanced]* check, using two advanced programs of Deltares, that give no direct assessment result (approved, disapproved, etc), but can be used for further advanced (probabilistic) analysis:
** SLIQ2D for static liquefaction;
** HMBreach/HMTurb for breach flow.

The definition of the symbols used in this Background section can be found in the *[Symbols|GEO:D-Flow Slide - Symbols]* sub-section.
