Thesis title: The use of numerical models to determine the response of moored vessels to waves in a complex harbour geometry

  • Developing and validating a numerical chain consisting of the Boussinesq-type wave propagation model Triton coupled subsequently to Harberth and Quaysim (Van der Molen), creating a method to numerically determine the wave climate at a berth and the motion response of a moored vessel at that berth.
  • Using this numerical model chain to understand and eventually solve the inoperativeness issue at an oil berth in the Port of Leixões, Portugal, caused primarily by low frequency waves.
