Expert Meeting Levee Erosion 14 September 2023
The program included four sessions combined with break-out sessions and plenary discussions:
- Introduction and opening by Martin van der Meer & Tanja Voogd.
- Session 1: Impact drought and animal burrowing, insights Hedwige erosion tests.
- Results Hedwige tests: impact on erodability top layers by Myron van Damme.
- Levee safety framework animal burrowing by André Koelewijn.
- Session 2: Soil structuring and aging, monitor and predict clay layer condition.
- Top layer profiling in test pits, first results seadikes, application all dikes by Marc Hijma.
- Soil aging mechanisms, relation with climate proof design, sea or river conditions by Martine van der Ploeg.
- Session 3: Wave and current induced erosion: physics models, parameters, tests.
- Rivers/current - typical riverdike, critical and occuring shear stress by Gijs Hoffmans.
- Coastal/waves - typical seadike, transient overtopping flows by Bas Hofland.
- Session 4: Introduction Borehole Erosion Test in the Netherlands, US experience.
- US experiences, applications as a profiling tool, improvements by Jean-Louis Briaud..
- NL first results (sneak preview), relation with other lab and fields tests by Werner Halter.
